The description on Masala Dining's website says a lot about this month's iCOTM: "It is the most painful chicken curry". Despite being a big fan of extremely hot, gravy-based curries, I just had to give it a try. It didn't disappoint. From the first bite, the Chicken Chilli explodes in the mouth with heat and flavour. It's a "dry" curry, but it doesn't feel like that at any moment - the liquid from the abundance of peppers and onions, mixed with the juice of the succulent chicken makes up for the absence of sauce. These ingredients also enhance the heat by several times, as the liquid spreads around your mouth and throat, distributing the capsaicin freely. The highlight, however, is that you actually feel outside yourself as you're eating it - quite amazing. It takes a very special kind of food to give you that experience. I would recommend the excellent Masala Dining change their description to "It is the most painful, but spiritually freeing, chicken curry". It really is that good.
